Management Consultants, Governments, Academicians, NGOs and a multitude of other interested parties have developed a plethora of sustainability models, some based upon real-world, quantifiable analytical systems such as the Simapro Life-Cycle-Assessment software (lower left); others more abstract and theoretical, like the much-used triad model of environmental, economic and social sustainability on the upper right.

All have limitations. The Simapro model excludes the socio-economic and cultural aspects and lacks comprehensive data in many of its processes and product applications. The triad model provides an excellent overview of sustainability, but gives little in the way of practical application.

The NRSUM Sustainability Matrix incorporates all of the substantive aspects of previous models, using the NECSI model (lower right) as a starting point, adapted for sustainability. Click HERE to continue.
